Sweatergirl's July report

It's been a big month in sweatergirl-land. We visited our parents in Philadelphia - a 10-hr car trip with E. Not so bad. Except for the traffic.

  • I will not drive over the 4th of July.
  • I will not drive over the 4th of July.
  • I will not drive over the 4th of July.
  • I will not drive over the 4th of July.
  • Meanwhile, E has learned to suck her thumb and now prefers clothes that she can stick in her mouth. All those little dresses are coming in handy. She has also decided that when she's awake, she would like to be standing. Please. So who can resist? I humor the kid. It makes her happy. As do ceiling fans - moving or not. Strange. Steve's mom insists that is a sign of autism, derived from the vaccinations. (She can really follow things a bit to far! I am not at all worried. There might be a reason we live a 10-hr drive away...) E has also entered this phase where she gets extremely tired, but doesn't want to go to sleep. This is a source of frustration for all, but still she manages to be quite adorable with her moans. Not as cute as the coos, but hey. I feel her pain - I can be a bit cranky myself. Especially now that I am no longer a twenty-something.

I have gotten a teeny bit of knitting done - the Union Jack sweater is knitted and all the ends are woven in.

It just needs to be seamed, and - gasp! - washed. I was worried about the colors running, so I bought some stuff at a quilt shop (conveniently located next to the new ThreadBear) called Retayne. Wish us luck.

Also moving along is the little purple sweater, the Swing High Cardigan from Miss Bea's Playtime (love this series!). Body done - one sleeve (and buttonbands/collar/seaming) to go!

I have also done some spinning - some of the boring but functional brown stuff, and a new project. I gathered up a bunch of wool and mohair that I had dyed and got it all carded together.

The color is reminiscent of dryer lint, or maybe just my favorite jeans. It is spinning a bit lumpy, because of the various fibers and the second-cuts. But that's okay. Which is good - I have 4 pounds of the stuff. I would really like to have a rollneck raglan of this stuff to wear with casual khakis.
