Sweatergirl's last day off
This is the last day of my full-time baby-bonding time. It has been wonderful! But back to work on Monday morning - but only part-time for 12 more weeks.
This no-yarn-buying pact with Sarah has been relatively successful for me - though I have added quite a few entries just today. Who would have known E would have such a yarn addiction at such a young age? You should have heard the way she carried on at the Yarn for Ewe sale - I couldn't leave without 4 baby-sweaters-worth of yarn. And then at the guild sale on Tuesday, I just had to reward her for being so good and letting me eat the scruptious Olive Garden buffet. So I left with another baby-sweaters-worth. Oh, but pay no attention to the Jo Sharp entry above those. That was just a slip - I still have a hard time resisting a sale.
But - there were very few unplanned purchases in the time of the pact. And that's really what I needed to work on - I needed to not buy yarn just because I was having a bad day. Now I need to work on that with the ice cream-eating habit that I developed in place of the yarn-buying habit...but that's another story.
So, as our pact comes to an end this month, what have I learned? Well, not to buy yarn unless I have a container to put it in. That should at least restrict the space the stash takes up. And also, to shop the stash before buying yarn - I have lots of nice yarn already that would be suitable for starting new projects. And the pact pushed me to work on some of the projects that I started long ago - although St. Brigid is still a work in progress.
Sweatergirl knits!
Whew! I did not realize how much time I had been spending reading/studying for my stats class. Since it's been over (29 hours now), I've been able to sneak in some other reading AND some knitting. AND some TV-watching, but I think that might get old soon. I am nearly done my sock-buddy socks now - yippee! I just need to kitchener the toe and weave in the ends. Why do I knit socks? 'Cause it feels so good when I stop. I also got to work on St. Brigid - started the front, but am just a few rows in. And, I didn't get to blog about it earlier, but I am working on my first Koigu project - some of those "stay-on baby booties". Cool yarn. One bootie done.
FYI - E's feet have stayed 3.25 inches long since she was 2 weeks old (first time I measured). And her belly is about 16 inches around when she's just eaten. Her head is only about 14.5 inches around. Whenever I would knit baby clothes before, I would think, "This can't possibly fit a human being." But she's smaller than I'd abstractly think.
Well, it's 5 PM - time to go scavenge some lunch!

Happy Cinquo de Mayo!
As if there is anyone reading after I have neglected this blog for 3.5 weeks! Elizabeth is such a darling that I can't take my eyes or hands off of her. And sufing one-handed on a touchpad is not for the faint of heart, which, perhaps, I am.
So - E's been here 3.5 weeks (and has already been to 2 knitting get-togethers) and is growing so fast. She's starting to be awake more and communicate a bit more - some actual facial expressions and such. She had her first actual bath on Sunday, after I conquered my fears. But either she liked it or was in a milk-induced stupor - hard to tell at this stage.
I am still fighting with email software, camera software, and blogger on this machine. Grr. I need to reformat, but need to finish a stats project first. Argh. But I am cable-connected, which is a good thing. So I am trying to make it through reading some blogs but mostly I am just trying to keep it together (some days are better than others, but with my stats final over as of noon today, I might be able to catch up on some sleep). The first day I was home from the hospital, I was happy to just be able to walk to the mailbox as my accomplishment for the day - now I am up to doing lots of dishes and laundry and such - maybe eventually I can get up to putting up some shelves in E's room for all the stuffed animals!
